Research Description:

I work on understanding cardiac dynamics, with a focus on imaging and modeling pattern formation of excitation in the heart.  An important part of my research program is to develop imaging and computational methods, in particular new microscopy modalities, analysis and simulation programs, optogenetic techniques, and  ultra-fast sensors. Projects include development of a  fast two-photon microscope for deep tissue cardiac imaging, high throughput screening tools for cardiac stem cell research, and real-time control of excitation waves in muscle. These tools are applied to various experimental models  including bio-engineered sheets of myocytes, co-cultures of myocytes and neurons, and whole hearts.  For a  more detailed description of my research program, please visit my lab web page at gil-bub.lab.mcgill.ca.
