The Mexican cave fish: a novel model system of heart regeneration
- 1 November 2014 to 30 June 2016
- Awards: Pump-priming Awards
This pump-priming award has allowed me to establish both a zebrafish and Astyanax fish colony in the Science Area in Oxford. With the first preliminary data generated, I was able to successfully apply for further funding, including a BHF project grant and an ERC starting grant. We are now in the process of publishing the first papers resulting from this work. This would all not have been possible without the initial support from the CRE. Contributions to the development of research resources (eg DNA or tissue banks, animal models).
We have generated an RAD-seq and RNA-seq library, which will be published online in the next months.
Additionally, we have generated 7 novel zebrafish lines, mutant for genes likely to be required for heart regeneration, which are now being tested.
