Establishing and characterising mature human iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes

Human induced pluripotent stem cell derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs) are fast becoming a new model to investigate cardiovascular abnormalities in the dish. However, current hiPSC-CM differentiation protocols frequently produce cells that more closely resemble embryonic, or neonatal, rather than adult human cardiomyocytes. This project aims to mature these cells using different external factors and maturation protocols to produce an improved model to study cardiac disease.
This is a method development project applying different technologies, with the aim of significantly improving the current model of iPSC derived cardiomyocytes. This project aims to provide a valuable method that can be used by cardiovascular researchers and at a later stage may be applied to patient derived iPS cells.
