Precellys Evolution Homogenizer
The Precellys® Evolution homogenizers from Bertin Instruments uses bead-beating technology to homogenize biological samples, such as human, animal or plant tissues, or to lyse micro-organisms. In this way, the biological samples are ground via multi-directional movement (3D bead-beating), the speed of which reaches up to 10,000 rotations per minute. It takes just a few dozen seconds to homogenize the samples, which are then ready for an analysis of the molecules of interest (nucleic acids, proteins, metabolites) using different analysis techniques: PCR, sequencing, Western Blot, liquid chromatography, etc. This represents a considerable time saving that simplifies sample preparation protocols. Beads can be either metallic or ceramic, depending on tissue type. Different sample volumes can be processed, in the following formats (max volume indicated):
- From 8 to 96 wells, 300µL
- From 1 to 24 tubes, 2mL/0.5mL
- From 1 to 12 tubes, 7mL
- From 1 to 6 tubes, 15mL
Example of current use: homogenization of frozen heart and liver tissue for protein extraction (RIPA buffer), metabolite extraction (MeOH:chloroform:water), lipid extraction (MeOH:chloroform), nucleic acid extraction (buffers from Qiagen nucleic acid extraction kits)
The equipment was sponsored by a John Fell Covid rebuilding research momentum fund awarded to Dr Kerstin Timm
