Charilaos (Harry) Zisou

BHF CRE Graduate Student

Project: Using large-scale biobanks to provide novel insights into physical activity and cardiovascular disease

Supervisors: Professor Aiden Doherty, Professor Jemma Hopewell and Dr. Karl Smith-Byrne.

Biography

I am supported by the Oxford British Heart Foundation Centre for Research Excellence and the Nuffield Department of Population Health, and I hold a titular Clarendon Fund scholarship.

My research revolves around integrating modern digital devices into large-scale epidemiological studies to learn more about the causes and consequences of non-communicable diseases. For my DPhil project, I will concentrate on extracting physical activity profiles from wearable accelerometer data and investigating potential underlying mechanisms of physical activity that lead to a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease.

Before joining the DPhil Population Health programme, I received a Master of Science in Global Health Science and Epidemiology from the University of Oxford and a Master of Engineering in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Undergraduate degree and training: Integrated MEng in Electrical and Computer Engineering (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki) followed by an MSc in Global Health Science and Epidemiology (University of Oxford).

Studentship dates: 2023 - 2026
