The immune system has critical roles in managing processes of homeostasis and disordered immune function has important implications for manifestations of cardiovascular diseases. Here, we will focus on how functions are disordered in the context of obesity (Ryden- Karolinska Institute,), hypercholesterolaemia (Channon/Purvis) and diabetes (Boden/Choudhury). In each case, additional complexity has emerged since pathological drivers, are not only active in "real time" but leave a 'training' or 'legacy' effect that is mediated epigenetic modification. With opportunities for discussion and debate, this evening will give valuable insights into these exciting approaches which can be relevant in many areas of cardiovascular research.
